Teamwork in Action: Learning Through Reflection-Milky Way-August 3rd-7th

こんにちは、Milky Wayクラスの保護者の皆さま。

暑い日が続いていますが、皆さまお元気にお過ごしでしょうか。もうすぐお盆休みですね。今週もMilky Wayクラスでは、たくさんの学びや発見、仲間との協力、そして笑顔あふれる活動を楽しみました。いつもお子さまたちの学びを温かく支えてくださり、ありがとうございます。

今週は、学校の菜園で育ててきたきゅうりの収穫を行いました。子どもたちは、自分たちで大切に育ててきたきゅうりを一本一本丁寧に収穫し、「大きくなってる！」「おいしそう！」と嬉しそうな表情を見せていました。自分たちが育てた野菜を収穫する喜びを味わう、貴重な体験となりました。

給食の時間には、キッチンスタッフが、収穫したきゅうりを食べやすく切ってくださり、子どもたちはマヨネーズまたはお味噌の好きな方を選んで、お友達と一緒に味わいました。

「おいしい！」「シャキシャキしてる！」と笑顔いっぱいで新鮮なきゅうりを楽しむ姿が見られ、自分たちで育てた野菜を食べる喜びを実感していました。この活動を通して、食べ物がどのように育つのかを知り、大切に育てることや収穫することの喜び、そして食べ物への感謝の気持ちを育むことができました。

自分たちの愛情と時間をかけて育てたきゅうりは、子どもたちにとって特別な味となり、心もお腹も満たされる素敵な時間となりました。

Dear Milky Way Families,

Greetings! We hope you are all doing well and looking forward to the upcoming Obon holiday. This week was filled with exciting learning experiences, meaningful teamwork, and joyful moments together. Thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning journey.

This week, the Milky Way class had the wonderful opportunity to harvest the fresh cucumbers we had grown in our school garden. The students were excited to carefully pick the cucumbers and experience the joy of harvesting something they had helped care for. At lunchtime, our kitchen staff kindly sliced the cucumbers so everyone could enjoy tasting them. The children chose either mayonnaise or miso as a dipping sauce and happily shared this healthy treat with their classmates. It was a meaningful experience that helped the students appreciate where food comes from while enjoying the fruits of their care and patience. Everyone was delighted and satisfied with the fresh, delicious cucumbers!

Unit of Inquiry ～コミュニケーションとチームワークについて学びました～

探究ユニット「How We Organize Ourselves（私たちはどのように組織するのか）」では、中心的な考えである「チームワークは共通の目標を達成することを可能にする」について、探究の流れ 2「コミュニケーションや対立がチームワークに与える影響」の探究を始めました。

子どもたちは、「ボールチャレンジ」と「宝探しゲーム（Scavenger Hunt）」という2つの協力ゲームに挑戦し、それぞれの活動後には振り返りを行いました。

宝探しゲームでは、教室や音楽室に隠されたアイテムをチームで協力して探しました。活動後の振り返りでは、「机の下を見ていなかった。」「Essential Agreement（クラスの約束）のポスターの後ろを見ていなかった。」「先生の机の下や教室・音楽室のいろいろな場所をもっと探せばよかった。」など、自分たちで気付いたことをたくさん発表してくれました。

また、ピザのピース、緑色のストロー、木の積み木、青いアルファベットの「c」、お花の形のブロック、絵筆、白いトレーなど、チームで協力して見つけることができたアイテムをみんなで喜び合いました。

振り返りでは、

• 「もっと声を掛け合いたい。」
• 「先生の話をよく聞きたい。」
• 「最初にチームの役割を決めたい。」
• 「最後まで頑張りたい。」
• 「自信を持って取り組みたい。」
• 「みんなで協力したい。」
• 「目標を達成したい。」
• 「あきらめない。」

など、次につながる前向きな意見がたくさん出ました。

活動中には、Milky Wayクラスや音楽室、プレイルームを探しながら、お友達同士で自然に声を掛け合い、コミュニケーションを取る姿が以前よりも多く見られ、子どもたちの成長を感じることができました。すべてのアイテムを見つけられたチームはありませんでしたが、「もっと良いチームワークにするにはどうしたらよいか」を考える、とても貴重な学びとなりました。

続いて行ったボールチャレンジでは、最初の挑戦ではうまく成功することができませんでした。子どもたちは、「作戦を立てていなかった。」「ひもを速く動かしすぎた。」「みんなのタイミングが合っていなかった。」ことに気付きました。

そこで、みんなで話し合い、振り返りをした後にもう一度チャレンジしました。今回は、最初に作戦を立て、ゆっくり同じタイミングでひもを動かすことを意識した結果、見事に目標を達成することができました！

これらの活動を通して子どもたちは、相手としっかりコミュニケーションを取ること、計画を立てること、そしてあきらめずに挑戦し続けることが、良いチームワークには欠かせない大切な要素であることを実感することができました。

In our Unit of Inquiry under the transdisciplinary theme How We Organize Ourselves, we moved to Line of Inquiry 2: How communication and conflict affect teamwork, connected to our central idea, “Teamwork enables people to achieve common goals.” The students participated in two collaborative challenges—the Ball Challenge and a Scavenger Hunt—followed by meaningful reflections. During the Scavenger Hunt, students realized that they had missed looking carefully in some places, such as under tables, behind our Essential Agreement poster, under the teacher’s desk, and in different areas of the classroom and Music Room. They celebrated the items they successfully found together, including the pizza slice, green straw, wooden block, blue letter c, flower connecting toy, paintbrush, and white tray. Through their reflections, the students shared that next time they would communicate more, follow instructions carefully, decide on team roles before starting, do their best, stay confident, work together, achieve their goal, and never give up. Teachers also noticed a wonderful improvement in communication as students searched throughout the Milky Way classroom, Music Room, and Play Room. Although no team found every item, the experience became a valuable opportunity to reflect on how teamwork can be strengthened. During the Ball Challenge, the students were unable to complete the task on their first attempt because they did not yet have a plan, moved the strings too quickly, and were not working in the same timing. After reflecting together, they tried again. This time, they made a plan, moved the strings slowly and together, and successfully achieved their goal. These experiences helped the children understand that effective communication, careful planning, and perseverance are important elements of successful teamwork.

スポーツフェスティバルに向けて練習を頑張っています！

今週も、スポーツフェスティバルに向けて体育館でパフォーマンスの練習を行いました。

とても暑い一日でしたが、子どもたちは最後まであきらめず、一生懸命取り組む姿を見せてくれました。途中でこまめにお茶を飲んだり、体を休めたりしながら体調に気を付け、最後まで練習をやり遂げることができました。

パフォーマンスの練習が終わった後は、競技の練習にも挑戦しました。「On your mark, get set, go!（位置について、よーい、ドン！）」の合図とともに、子どもたちは全力でスタート！ゴールを目指して笑顔いっぱいで走る姿がとても印象的でした。

練習が終わると、「もっとやりたい！」「もう一回走りたい！」という声がたくさん聞こえてきました。子どもたちがとても楽しんでいたため、もう一度みんなでレースを楽しみました。

スクールへ戻るバスの中で先生が「今日の練習は楽しかった？」と尋ねると、子どもたちは声をそろえて「はーい！！」と元気いっぱいに答えてくれました。

暑さに負けず、最後まで笑顔で挑戦し続ける姿や、「もっとやりたい！」という前向きな気持ちから、スポーツフェスティバルを心から楽しみにしている様子が伝わってきました。本番でも、一人ひとりが仲間と力を合わせ、これまでの練習の成果を思い切り発揮してくれることを楽しみにしています。

We also continued preparing for our upcoming Sports Festival by practicing our performance in the gym. Even though the weather was very hot, the students showed perseverance and tried their best throughout the practice. They took breaks to drink tea and cool down before continuing until they successfully completed the entire performance. Afterward, we practiced our race with great excitement. As soon as they heard, “On your mark, get set, go!” everyone gave their full energy and raced with enthusiasm. When the practice ended, many students excitedly said, “We want to play!” Since they were having so much fun, we spent a little more time enjoying another race together. On the bus ride back to school, the teacher asked, “Did you have fun in today’s practice?” and the students answered together with a loud and cheerful, “YES!” Their excitement and positive attitude made us very proud.

Reading Time ～『Jake and Gail Go to Spain』を読みました！～

今週のReading Timeでは、「ai」の母音チーム（Vowel Team）を学べるデコーダブルブック『Jake and Gail Go to Spain』を読みました。

この本は、お子さまがもう一度ご家庭に持ち帰ります。ぜひご家庭でも一緒に読んでいただき、スクールで学んでいるフォニックスのルールを思い出しながら、文字と音を結び付けて読む練習をしてみてください。

「文字を指でなぞりながら読む」「知っているフォニックスの音を使って読んでみる」「最後まであきらめずに挑戦する」など、お子さまが自分なりの読み方を工夫できるよう温かく見守り、励ましていただけると嬉しいです。

ご家庭での読み聞かせや音読の時間は、読む力を育てるだけでなく、お子さまの自信や「英語を読むって楽しい！」という気持ちを育む大切な機会になります。ぜひ親子で楽しい読書の時間をお過ごしください。

Reading Time: This week we read the ai vowel team book Jake and Gail Go to Spain. Your child will be bringing this book home again. Please take some time to read it together and encourage your child to practice using their reading strategies.
