Gallery Walk: Discovering Teams Around Us
This week, we continued exploring our new Unit of Inquiry, “Teamwork enables people to achieve common goals.” The students took part in a Gallery Walk, where they observed pictures of different teams in action. Using the See, Think, Wonder thinking routine, they carefully looked at each picture, shared what they noticed, explained their thinking, and asked thoughtful questions.
As the discussion developed, the students began to recognise that teams can work in many different ways but all share a common purpose. They also discovered that many tasks become easier when people communicate, cooperate, and help one another. It was wonderful to see the students building on each other’s ideas and developing a deeper understanding of teamwork.
今週は、Unit of Inquiry「チームワークによって共通の目標を達成できる」の学習をさらに進めました。子どもたちはギャラリーウォークに参加し、さまざまなチームが活動している写真を観察しました。**See, Think, Wonder（見て・考えて・不思議に思う）**の思考ルーティンを使い、写真をよく見て気づいたことや考えたこと、そして疑問に思ったことを友達と共有しました。
話し合いを通して、チームにはさまざまな形があること、そしてどのチームも共通の目標に向かって協力していることに気付き始めました。また、人と協力し、コミュニケーションを取りながら助け合うことで、多くのことがより簡単にできることも学びました。友達の考えを聞きながら、自分の考えを深めていく姿がとても印象的でした。
The One-Hand Challenge
To help the students experience why teamwork is valuable, we completed our One-Hand Challenge. The children rotated through different stations where they had to complete everyday tasks using only one hand. These included opening a bottle, using a zipper, carrying an object on a piece of paper, and building a house of cards.
Afterward, we reflected on which tasks were difficult and discussed how much easier they would be with the help of a teammate. This hands-on experience helped the students understand that asking for help, supporting others, and working together are important parts of teamwork.
チームワークの大切さを実際に感じるために、ワンハンドチャレンジに挑戦しました。子どもたちは、一つの手だけを使って日常のさまざまな課題に取り組みました。ペットボトルを開けたり、チャックを閉めたり、紙の上に物を乗せて運んだり、トランプで家を作ったりと、いろいろなチャレンジに挑戦しました。
活動後には、「どれが難しかったかな？」「友達がいたらどうだったかな？」と振り返りを行いました。この体験を通して、助け合うことや協力することの大切さを実感し、チームワークについてより深く考えることができました。
Planning Before Building
To finish the week, the students worked in their teams on another tower-building challenge using wooden blocks. Before they were allowed to begin, each team spent time discussing and planning how they wanted to build their tower. They talked about their ideas, listened to one another, and agreed on a plan together.
After the challenge, we reflected on the process rather than just the final tower. The students discussed whether they were able to follow their plan, how well they communicated, and what they could improve next time. This activity reminded us that successful teamwork is not only about the final result, but also about planning, listening, and working together throughout the process.
週の最後には、木製ブロックを使ったタワー作りチャレンジに取り組みました。今回は、作り始める前にチームごとで話し合い、どのようなタワーを作るのかを一緒に計画しました。自分の考えを伝えたり、友達の意見を聞いたりしながら、チームで一つの計画を立てました。
チャレンジの後は、完成したタワーだけではなく、取り組み方についても振り返りました。「計画通りにできたかな？」「チームのみんなと上手にコミュニケーションが取れたかな？」と話し合い、次に生かせることを考えました。この活動を通して、良いチームワークとは結果だけではなく、計画を立て、話し合い、最後まで協力し合うことが大切だということを学びました。
