Shooting Star hitched a ride with the Milky Way class for an exciting exploration of Nakano Campus to kick off the new unit focused on living things. They discovered many small creatures, some living independently outdoors and others cared for by students and teachers. Each tiny creature plays an important role in the ecosystem. The Central Idea of their learning is that small creatures are connected to all living things, and the first line of inquiry, as students noticed: there are lots of “small creatures all around us!”
「シューティング・スター」クラスは、「生き物」をテーマにした新しい単元の始まりとして、「ミルキー・ウェイ」クラスと一緒に中野キャンパスのワクワクするような探究活動に出かけました。彼らは、屋外で自由に暮らす生き物や、生徒や先生にお世話されている生き物など、たくさんの小さな生き物を発見しました。どんなに小さな生き物も、生態系の中で大切な役割を担っています。この学習の「中心となる考え（セントラル・アイデア）」は、「小さな生き物はすべての生き物とつながっている」というものです。そして、生徒たちが最初に気づいた探究のポイントは、「私たちの周りにはたくさんの『小さな生き物』がいる！」ということでした。
After observing all of the magnificent creatures in the wild and in the classrooms, Shooting Star had a tasty indoor picnic. Then, the students expressed their impressions of all the living things that they saw together through drawings, and tried to find their creature of choice in books.
自然の中や教室にいる素晴らしい生き物たちを観察した後、シューティング・スターの子供たちは室内で楽しいピクニックの時間を過ごしました。その後、目にした生き物についての印象を絵に表現したり、本を使って自分のお気に入りの生き物を探したりしました。
They further celebrated the hot and sunny start to the week by hanging their Tanabata origami stars and wishes on a bamboo tree, then cooled off in paddle pools and sprinklers.
また、暑く晴れやかな週の始まりを祝って、七夕の折り紙の星や願い事を笹の葉に飾り付けた後、パドルプールやスプリンクラーの水遊びで涼みました。
In class, students watched a video to identify living and non-living things and noticed that creatures live in different environments like water, sky, soil, and indoors. This video sparked a conversation about whether plants are living or not. So, each table team received a poster and bottle to decorate and name for their new Spider Plants! Each team will collaborate to care for their plants, which are missing a crucial part. Roots! The students thoughtfully observed that their plants did not have roots, and realized that they must help them grow with water and all the extra sun!
教室では、動画を見て「生き物」と「そうでないもの」を区別する活動を行い、生き物が水、空、土、室内など様々な環境で暮らしていることに気づきました。この動画をきっかけに、「植物は生き物なのだろうか？」という話題で盛り上がりました。そこで、各テーブルのチームにポスターとボトルが配られ、新しい「スパイダープラント（オリヅルラン）」に名前を付けたり、ボトルを飾り付けたりしました！各チームは協力して植物のお世話をすることになりますが、この植物にはある重要な部分が欠けていました。それは「根っこ」です！生徒たちは植物に根がないことに気づき、水やたっぷりの日光を与えて成長を助けてあげなければならないと理解しました。
To conclude the week, Shooting Star and Milky Way visited the local library, learning about etiquette, enjoying story time, and creating colorful summer crafts with guests. They read a delightful story about a black crayon that created a rainbow of fireworks with friends, inspiring creativity and friendship. This week was full of curiosity, care, and connection, sparking a love for learning about the living world.
週の締めくくりとして、シューティング・スターとミルキー・ウェイのクラスは地元の図書館を訪れました。そこでは図書館でのマナーを学んだり、読み聞かせを楽しんだり、ゲストと一緒にカラフルな夏の工作を作ったりしました。読んだのは、黒いクレヨンが友達と一緒に虹色の花火を描き出すという素敵な物語で、子供たちの創造力や友情を育むきっかけとなりました。好奇心、思いやり、そしてつながりに満ちたこの一週間は、生き物について学ぶことへの愛着を深める素晴らしい時間となりました。
